A really great experience for an ER/Urgent Care, was able to do blood work and CAT scans on a Sunday when the only other alternative was a large hospitals crowded ER department. Was attended to immediately, treated with respect, and the parking was a breeze compared to a traditional large hospital. If you’re in need of emergency care, that’s not immediately life threatening, this is the place I would go first!

I've had some decent experiences at this emergency room over the years and some very bad ones indeed. I had an experience lately where I went after I splashed some vinegar in my eye and googling it I discovered that it can actually cause eye damage which I wasn't aware of and I saw this on multiple medical websites and not just the AI version either. And I didn't want to take any chances. Not having a primary care doctor I went to this emergency room since it's nearby. Again, after what I googled I didn't want to take any chances because after all it's my vision. If my googling had revealed that it was no big deal it would have been a different story. It's not like I go to emergency rooms just as a hobby.. Anyway....the male registrar, who finally came out to his station after at least 10 minutes because he was busy with something else while I was just standing there.....he had a very sour look on his face when I was explaining what the situation was that I was there for and finally he said to me "Yeah I had vinegar splash in my eye one time but I didn't go to the emergency room for it...." He made me feel like a fool and an idiot for being there and then I wondered if I was going to get the same kind of dismissive care from the nurses and doctors. I spoke with a supervisor about it but she didn't really seem overly concerned and just told me that she "wasn't there" (when this mocking and sarcastic comment was made by this registrar)... as if I was making the whole thing up. Then when I finally went into the examination room to see the doctor, while I was waiting a female security guard strolled by and looked at me as if they had given her some kind of tip off that I was a troublemaker? For standing up for my rights and refusing to be treated that way? I wasn't even yelling and screaming.... I was merely telling them how offended I was by the way that registrar treated me and that his comment and his demeanor were inappropriate and made me fee as though I didn't belong there and it was done intentionally? Really?

I brought a family member to this facility on 12/26/25 , while checking in we were told there was a 1- 2 hour wait , vitals were quickly taken and after waiting over 2 hours our name was finally called , we were brought to one of the exam rooms and waited to be seen by a doctor , another 2 hours passed and no doctor ever came in , we stopped one of the nurses passing by and she had no idea how much longer the wait would be , after waiting over 4 hours plus traveling back and forth we decided to leave before a pending snowstorm was to start ,, Horrible place , I understand these places see busy but why tell people there’s a one to two hour wait when it’s actually over a 4 hour wait

To the nurse who said people don’t need to come to the hospital or doctors for hives, I hope your patients get the right empathy. Sincerely, someone going on week 8 of severe hives now being tested for autoimmune diseases. I had to mentally prepare for each appt I had after telling myself im not crazy and it’s not a simple allergic reaction without anaphylaxis.

Today, I had a terrible experience with YNHH. My girlfriend was in a bad car accident in Guilford and clearly had bad head trauma. We had to wait 3 hours before a doctor could see her and rule out any brain bleeding - which can be fatal or cause permanent damage. The individuals who work at the front couldn’t care less about my girlfriend or the fact that she was in a bad car accident. They were very dismissive towards me and kept telling me “she needs to wait her turn.” Others in front of her did not have the same troubling symptoms or injuries (some had non life threatening cuts or food poisoning). I had to call Patient Relations out of Yale New Haven to flag this situation. They eventually called the manager of the Guilford Hospital and finally agreed to see my girlfriend. This is also NOT THE FIRST TIME this hospital has done this. My brother was in extreme pain due to appendicitis and was forced to wait out in the waiting room 3 or 4 hours before they agreed to see him. This place seriously needs to reevaluate their priorities when it comes to care and urgencies. They also need to fix their attitude towards people with real, pressing health concerns.

Had to call Guilford Police as Triage RN refused admittance into ER with Respiratory Distress as I have a Service Dog and she stated “ we don’t allow dogs in the Emergency Room”. My dog was vested, leashed and with appropriate equipment stating Medical Alert Service Animal Please do not pet, engage nor distract. Her vest clearly stated what she was, I answered ALL of her questions even those she asked illegally according to the ADA Federal Laws and encouraged her to please use her computer she was typing into to bring up the website to “ prove” to her that there was indeed no paperwork, license, nor certificate that “ comes” with us. I have never in my life at 63 yrs of age ever had to deal with such ignorance especially at a Yale facility, in respiratory distress, and a Cancer patient receiving radiation at the very same facility. After waiting in my air conditioned vehicle for the Guilford Police.to respond which she did very quickly; we spoke and I explained the situation and encouraged her to have better luck than I did. I simply could not believe that an Emergency Medical facility would allow an elderly patient with emphysema, asthma & COPD to have to explain to her that they were breaking federal law and she was my “ medical equipment” that could cause the organization to be fined 10,000 and 1-3 yrs. years in prison as it is indeed a misdemeanor / felony charge in the eyes of the courts.
The officer was very understanding and knew the ADA law , was surprised I wasn’t upset & yelling. I explained that I was having difficulty breathing and that would get you no where. Our best bet is to educate as many people as we can as even getting people NOT to engage whatsoever with my dog is a feat in and of itself walking into Yale. Some nurses as well as patients do not seem to understand that distracting my dog takes her attention off her job and she may miss an alert and it’s myself who suffers. Please- explain to your friends , children, spouses. Please ignore my “ medical equipment”!do not talk to her or make little noises to get her to look at you “ cause she’s sooo cute”.
