The physical therapy team in Lakeland has and is continuing to help me regain my ability to stand and walk after 4 months of being in a wheelchair. They have been encouraging and supportive during an extremely trying time. Their one on one care allows them to analyze, listen and support their patients. I highly recommend this facility.

Had a CAT scan and my tech was very nice, got a blanket cause she saw I was cold drinking the stuff before test. She clearly explained everything about what test was and what she was going to do. Very professional and polite! Lab was very good as well! All staff from start to finish were very professional and kind even as busy as it was!

Dr Patel is attentive and always orders further testing when needed to accurately diagnose a problem. She takes time to call you personally with important results and answer any questions you may have.
I can't say enough about the friendliness and kindness of her staff. I don't feel like just another face passing through where they offer the obligatory politeness. I feel recognized and welcomed. This is rare now a days and I couldn't appreciate it more!!

All the staff was great! Got in quickly and was quickly given pain meds and was seen by the provider very quickly! I was able to get testing done to figure out what was going on and was able to get the results quickly. Both nurses were so kind and compassionate! Couldn’t have asked for better care! Way better than SGMC main campus by a long shot!

First time visiting the Lanier campus, though it was late at night, the staff was very friendly! Nurse Meshella was the best, she was very friendly and professional and made me feel at ease during the whole visit.

I have usually had a good day when I come to this little ER, however today was a bad day for me and I was very overwhelmed.

The staff felt unsafe when I had a meltdown and yelled at me to calm down and told me that I would have to repeat myself again for the doctor. When I asked for a piece of paper and pen to write down my symptoms so I wouldn't have another meltdown, I was told they didn't have any even though the doctor printed off paperwork for me later.

What I would like the staff to know is that...
I am autistic. When I am in pain, overwhelmed, or have been asked to repeat the same information many times, I can go into sensory and emotional overload. This is called a meltdown.

What it looks like for me:

Crying and raising my voice (out of distress, not aggression).

Pulling my hat/visor over my eyes and grabbing my head.

Rocking or moving repetitively to try to self-soothe.

Saying things in frustration that may sound sharp, but are not threats.

What it does not mean:

I am not dangerous.

I am not suicidal (unless I state otherwise directly).

I do not intend harm to myself or others.

What helps me:

Let me use a written symptom report instead of repeating my full story many times.

Speak calmly and clearly, one question at a time.

Allow me a few moments of quiet to self-regulate if I am rocking or covering my eyes.

Avoid escalating by raising voices at me.

What I need:
I am here for urgent medical care. Please understand that my meltdown is about overwhelm and pain, not hostility.

Next time I have a long lasting illness like I've been experiencing over the past 3 weeks, I will come in with a paper already prepared.

I was also wearing my invisible disability sunflower lanyard to signal to that to others. This seems to be a very marginally recognized symbol, so I'm adding it to my review for others to know what it means.

I appreciate SGMC staff and I completely understand that they are on high alert for threats to their own safety. Please, let's allow accommodations for those that request them no matter who they are.

For a small community hospital, this place treated me with top notch care. It's really comforting to know that they're here for us in the area. The nurses are genuinely caring, compassionate, and understanding people. I really cant say enough good things about them.

Smaller hospital for sure. However, they see you much quicker. I still don't know the reasoning for my sharp pain though. Great bed side manners. Friendly and caring staff.
