I've been seeing Dr Ross Lai for 20 years. He's an excellent dentist who's helped me fix various problems that other dentists have caused. I've also seen Marc Lai in this office and also had great experiences. You can email their office staff too which I've found really helpful.

I give his practice a sub-par review due to the lack of responsiveness from his office, and subsequent poor customer service that I experienced. After having received a missed phone call from the office, I called back during business hours in hopes of receiving an explanation. I explained (over voicemail) that I was not aware of any upcoming appointments, but did not want to miss one if they had me on the books, and that the phone call I had received was non-descriptive in nature. I never received a call back or any other form of a response, until a month later when I received a $75 bill in the mail for 'missing an appointment.' I quickly called into the office in hopes of resolving the issue, explaining my efforts to contact them before the date of my 'missed appointment,' but was patronized by the woman on the phone and told that Dr. Lai would not make any such exception. It was rudely put in my face that I had missed an appointment a year prior (insinuating a trend), which was due to a broken down car. At the time, I had called their office to tell them about my poor luck before my appointment time (as my car broke down on my way to the dental office from my work). For this to be thrown in my face was salt in the wounds of an already unfortunate memory. Further, to nickel and dime a patient $75 without any regard for context is tasteless and petty, especially for a rent-controlled dental practice in the heart of the Financial District... I'm sure their business is making ends meet to say the least. Bad business acumen too, being willing to lose a patient over a $75 debacle... Have to imagine they net more than that from a mere teeth cleaning, so (to me) that really speaks to their level of loyalty to their customers - zero.

Dr. Ross Lai was warm and generally knowledgeable about his profession, I had several appointments with him and his staff over the course of two years. It bothers me to write a scathing review because I feel it drops me to the same level as my content, and certainly there are many redeeming qualities to this practice, but for me - this experience was telling, and ultimately a deal breaker. I will not be returning, and I would encourage new and existing customers to consider my experience when evaluating a DDS. You can do better. Enjoy the $75 Dr. Lai.
