Dr. Joy is an excellent dentist! My husband been started going to her first, he has had significant amount of dental work in the past. I always trust his judgment when it comes to dentist, and he never steers me wrong. Her entire office staff is friendly, efficient, and incredibly helpful. As a medical professional myself, I would highly recommend this office.

Dr. Joy is kind and gentle, but does any sort of dental work quickly and beautifully. She pulled one of my sons baby teeth in minutes and filled a large cavity in mine so you can not tell there was ever one there. Dr. Joy is our whole family's dentist and we are all very happy she is there.

I found Dr. Joy and some of her staff mostly professional, others incompetent, arrogant, and abusive. I alerted Dr. Joy, but she implied that I am just an unhappy person, without addressing any changes that she will make with staff. This "Take It or Leave It" attitude is very common in Humboldt County, but I am often surprised when I travel, since they seem to appreciate your business.

One of the worst experiences with a dentist of my life. She was under the direction of the Open Door Clinic at the time and she tried to numb me for a root canal. Unfortunately it did not work the first time and I informed her I could still feel everything. She said she would give me another shot. I did not feel the 2nd shot go in, and at that point we were 15 minutes into the procedure. I informed her that I did not feel the 2nd one. At that point I could feel her working on me, as she started the drilling.I raised my hand informing her that I could still feel it. I asked for another shot. She then was angry and said she could not help me. She also said we were already 20 minutes in and could not finish. She then wanted to refer me to a specialist. I agreed and went to said specialist costing me over $1700 which I am still paying on. I was low income at the time and used a credit card. Open Door Clinic took my insurance and I would not be in debt right now. I now have a broken tooth from not being able to afford the crown. Her bedside manner is not fit for any healthcare worker.
