Dr. Madani was fantastic in that he was on time, very nice, listening to me, and didn’t try to sell me on procedures that I did not need. I went in for a regular gum assessment, because my regular dentist suggested that I see somebody for my gum recession due to bruxism. Dr. Madani said that I didn’t need any gum surgery and that I could just use a surface bonding material like I still had on the other side to cover up the slightly indented surface due to brushing away of the root below the enamel. He said that if I really wanted to, he might suggest one gum surgery where the recession was the worst, but he was clear in that that my gums would not grow back to the height prior to the recession. It would simply be thicker after the surgery, so that continued recession will be slowed or halted. Dr. Madani also told me that it actually is quite painful using your pallet skin, so they only use donor tissue.

I felt that he was very honest, because as an example, another periodontist in San Mateo recommended 8 gum surgeries and charges 33% more for the same procedure code as Dr. Madani and another periodontist in South San Francisco. The periodontist in San Mateo also said that it would not be very painful to use my pallet for the gum graft, and only discomfort for a couple days like a bad pizza burn.

He actually belongs to multiple offices and his other office got really high reviews, which is why I chose to get a second opinion from him. He is definitely everything that they said, and I would highly recommend him.

I went in for a consult on gum grafting. Such treatment sounded like a good solution to my problem. When I came back for the actual treatment, I was asked to sing on a document stating that the treatment may not yield any improvement. I hesitated to sign and inquired. They decided to give me another form to sign which didn't include the previous clause so I paid cost (in cash). At the chair in the surgery room, few minutes before starting, Dr. Madani mentioned that those treatment don't yield much benefit simply because the bone has diminished and is at a low level, hence, seeing significant improvement is unrealistic. It was too late to back out of the surgery. He was right, my teeth situation had worsened because in order to stuff the doner tissues, he had to detach whatever gum left from existing teeth which lead to mobile teeth. Basically, I was better of leaving them. He could have been honest with me and proposed an alternate treatment one that I'd have benefited from instead of tricking me into something that won't work. Dr. Madani lacks the integrity and is about his own bottom line. Is he that desperate?
